Do you love to stay active? Whether you enjoy running, skating, yoga, or hitting the gym, breast surgery doesn’t have to hold you back. Whether you’re considering breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast uplift, an active lifestyle and beautiful breasts can absolutely go hand in hand. Before you decide, it’s good to know what to expect before and after the surgery and how to safely return to your favorite activities.

Choosing the Right Implant

For sporty women, surgeons often recommend placing the implant under the chest muscle. This approach ensures a more natural look, especially when there’s little subcutaneous fat to cover the implant under the breast gland.

We also carefully consider whether to use round or anatomical implants — everything needs to fit perfectly, particularly when you move and exercise frequently.

The choice of implant shape and size is always made together with your plastic surgeon. While your wishes are key, the surgeon will also take into account your anatomy — such as chest width, skin quality, and the amount of subcutaneous tissue — to ensure the best and most natural outcome.

The First Days After Surgery

Before you leave the clinic, your bandages are removed and you’ll receive a special compression bra, which should be worn for several weeks. Most women agree that it actually makes daily movement more comfortable.

Light physical activity can be resumed — depending on the scope of the procedure — no sooner than four to six weeks after surgery. However, it’s important to wear a supportive postoperative or sports bra. During the first month, patients should avoid straining the chest muscles,” explains MUDr. Jakub Kníže, plastic surgeon at OB CARE Clinic.

Your implants need time to stabilize. Skipping the recommended rest can lead to pain and increase the risk of complications. Proper recovery is an essential part of the procedure and directly affects your final result.
For several weeks after surgery, avoid heavy physical exertion and try to sleep on your back with your head elevated.

Returning to Sports

You can gradually return to some activities after about four weeks — always after consulting your surgeon. During this period, avoid lifting anything heavier than 2 kg, making sudden arm movements, or engaging in sports.

Sports that heavily involve arm movements, as well as contact or combat sports, should be postponed for at least two to three months. Take your time when returning to more demanding workouts and build up your strength gradually.
Activities such as swimming, tennis, golf, or volleyball — which require extensive arm movement — should be postponed for at least eight weeks.

Michaela’s Story: “I know I should have done it much earlier”

What is it really like after breast surgery? Michaela, who underwent breast augmentation at OB CARE Clinic, shares her experience:

I am extremely satisfied with the results of my breast augmentation performed by Dr. Skála. The procedure itself, as well as the healing period, went completely without complications. As an active athlete, I wanted a natural result – firm, lifted breasts that wouldn’t interfere with sports, while still enhancing my femininity.
Dr. Skála understood my wishes perfectly, and the result exceeded my expectations. He even managed a slight asymmetry without any additional procedures or scars. Now I feel more confident and comfortable in my body.

I would like to thank Dr. Skála and his entire team for their professionalism and personal care. They did an outstanding job! One thing I do regret… I gifted myself this surgery for my 50th birthday, and now I know I should have done it much earlier! :-D
