Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that increases breast volume and can improve breast shape and symmetry using breast implants.

Women choose breast augmentation for many different reasons. Some would like larger breasts, while others want to restore volume lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss. Breast augmentation can also help improve naturally uneven or asymmetrical breasts.

Because every woman has different anatomy and different expectations, choosing the right implant and surgical technique is always an individual decision made together with your plastic surgeon.

Who Is It For?

Breast augmentation may be suitable if you:

  • would like to increase the size or fullness of your breasts
  • have naturally small breasts
  • have lost breast volume following pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss
  • have breast asymmetry
  • would like to improve the shape and proportions of your breasts

During your consultation in Prague, the surgeon will assess your breast shape, size, skin quality and body proportions and discuss your expectations. Together, you will choose the most appropriate implant size and shape and decide where the implant should be positioned.

How Is It Done?

Breast augmentation involves placing silicone breast implants inside the breast to increase its volume and improve its shape.

The implant can be placed either behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or partly or completely behind the chest muscle (submuscular or dual-plane placement). The most suitable position depends on your anatomy, the amount of natural breast tissue and the type of result you want to achieve.

The surgeon will also discuss the most appropriate incision with you. Depending on your anatomy and the chosen surgical technique, the incision may be placed:

  • in the fold beneath the breast
  • around the lower edge of the areola

The choice of implant is individual and depends on factors such as its size, shape, projection and profile, as well as your natural breast proportions.

We work with established implant manufacturers and will discuss the available options with you during your consultation.

Choosing the Right Breast Implants

Choosing an implant is about more than simply selecting a cup size.

Your surgeon will consider your existing breast tissue, chest width, skin elasticity, body proportions and desired outcome when recommending the appropriate implant.

Surgery

Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes approximately 1–2 hours.

The length of the procedure may vary depending on the surgical technique and whether breast augmentation is combined with another procedure.

After Surgery

You will normally stay at the clinic for one night after surgery.

For the first days after the procedure, you should avoid excessive use of your arms and follow your surgeon's instructions regarding movement and physical activity.

You will need to wear a special postoperative compression or support bra as recommended by your surgeon. The exact duration of wearing the bra and other postoperative instructions may vary depending on your individual recovery.

During the initial recovery period, you should avoid sleeping on your side, lifting your arms excessively and activities that place unnecessary strain on the chest and upper body.

Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions about when you can return to exercise, swimming and other activities.

When Can I Return to Normal Activities?

Most patients can return to non-physical work and normal daily activities after approximately two weeks, depending on how they are recovering.

Light exercise can usually be gradually resumed after around four weeks, while strenuous exercise and activities involving the chest and upper body may need to be avoided for at least six weeks.

Your surgeon will advise you when it is safe to resume individual activities.

Result

The breasts will gradually change during the first weeks and months as swelling subsides and the implants settle into their final position.

The final shape and appearance can usually be assessed after approximately 2–3 months, although the healing process continues for longer.

The result is intended to create breasts that are fuller and more proportionate to your body while maintaining a natural-looking appearance.

Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift?

For some women, increasing breast volume alone may not address sagging or changes in breast shape.

If the breasts have lost significant volume or the skin has become loose, your surgeon may recommend combining breast augmentation with a breast lift (mastopexy).

A breast lift reshapes and raises the breast, while implants add volume. Combining the two procedures can be an appropriate option for selected patients who want to improve both breast shape and size.

Your surgeon will discuss whether augmentation alone or a combination procedure is more suitable for you.

Before Surgery

As part of your preparation for breast augmentation, your surgeon may recommend breast imaging, such as an ultrasound or mammogram, depending on your age, medical history and individual circumstances.

If you are travelling to Prague for your surgery and do not have recent breast imaging from your home country, we can help arrange the necessary examination locally.

Most international patients stay in Prague for approximately 7–10 days, allowing time for the initial recovery and postoperative check-ups. Your individual stay will depend on the procedure and your surgeon's recommendations.

For your safety and comfort, we recommend arranging someone to accompany you or assist you during the first days after surgery, particularly if you are travelling internationally.
