Who Is It For?
After major weight loss or pregnancy, it is normal for the abdominal wall to lose its tightness and for the skin to sag. Additional problems such as stretch marks, old scars or separated abdominal muscles can occur. Abdominoplasty surgery offers a solution by flatting the saggy skin and tightening the muscles of the relaxed tummy wall, and if needed, excess fat tissue can be removed.
How Is It Done?
A tummy tuck operation is a highly individualised procedure achieved through a variety of incisions and techniques. The appropriate technique for you will be determined during your personal consultation with your cosmetic surgeon in Prague.
The incision is made in the so-called bikini line – from hip to hip in such a way it can be hidden within most underwear or swimsuit. During the tummy tuck operation, the skin and abdominal wall with the fat layer are separated, the navel is separated from the surrounding skin, abdominal muscles are tightened and the skin and subcutaneous tissue are stretched out while their excess is removed. During suturing non-absorbable or absorbable materials can be used. In the case of non-absorbable materials, the sutures must be extracted, while absorbable sutures dissolve in the body on their own and their advantage is also the fact that the scar is finer.
Types of abdominoplasty procedures offered by our surgeons
Our surgeons offer several types of abdominoplasty procedures, tailored to the individual needs and anatomical conditions of each patient.
Complete abdominoplasty
(including muscle tightening and belly button repositioning)
In a full abdominoplasty, the belly button is separated from the surrounding skin. The weakened abdominal muscles are then tightened and sutured together, and excess fat is removed. The skin is pulled downward, and the excess is excised.
The belly button is then repositioned to match the new shape of the abdomen.
FDL abdominoplasty (Fleur-de-lis)
FDL abdominoplasty is a highly specialised technique most commonly used in post-bariatric patients after significant weight loss.
It removes excess skin both horizontally and vertically, resulting in two scars:
- a horizontal scar in the lower abdomen
- a vertical scar along the midline
The final scar has an inverted “T” shape.
Floating abdominoplasty
Floating abdominoplasty is a technique in which the belly button is temporarily detached from its connection to the abdominal wall through a hip-to-hip incision. This allows tightening of the abdominal muscles and achieving a more aesthetically refined contour, particularly in slim patients with minimal skin excess.
Mini tummy tuck
In a mini abdominoplasty, only excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen are removed. The belly button remains unchanged.
The scar is placed along the bikini line, making it easily concealable.
Reverse abdominoplasty
Reverse abdominoplasty is an aesthetic procedure that removes excess skin and tightens the upper abdomen. Unlike a traditional tummy tuck, the skin is lifted upward toward the chest.
This procedure is suitable for patients with loose skin in the upper abdomen after weight loss or pregnancy, and it can be combined with a breast lift to achieve a more harmonious upper body contour.
