Monika (41) decided to undergo liposuction at OB Care Clinic during the spring Liposuction Week campaign in 2025. What made her choose the procedure, and what was the experience like? We asked her the most common questions 6 weeks after surgery.
Now you can read about her personal experience with Dr. Martin Skála and the thigh and abdominal liposuction she underwent in April last year.
What was your motivation, and what was the final impulse that made you decide?
Since puberty, my body shape kept changing, and whenever I gained weight, it was always most visible around my hips and buttocks. The imbalance of my figure bothered me, and I often tried to hide it by tying a sweatshirt around my waist and never really looked forward to swimsuit season.
Over time, I started discovering a healthier lifestyle and deepened my passion for sports. I also went through different diets, and although I looked slim overall, my fuller hips and thighs always remained.
After two more demanding C-sections, I was also left with a small skin overhang on my abdomen. It wasn’t huge, but because I exercise regularly and live an active lifestyle, it really bothered me. That was the moment I decided to finally address it.
Once the children started kindergarten, I began researching possible solutions. I came across an OB Care Clinic promotion online, and the possibility of a free consultation immediately caught my attention.
I was worried I might feel embarrassed in front of a doctor, as it was my first consultation in plastic surgery. But Dr. Skála was incredibly approachable and truly lived up to his reputation as both a warm and highly experienced surgeon.
The consultation even took place with my little daughter present, and despite that, we managed to discuss everything in detail with a sense of humor. We talked about correcting my abdominal scar as well as a less invasive option — liposuction, which could visually improve the abdominal overhang.
What really interested me during the consultation was the possibility of treating my hips and thighs at the same time so they would no longer make my figure look so wide. At that time, the clinic was also running the OB Care Week liposuction event, so I decided to go ahead with the procedure.
How did your first consultation with the surgeon go?
During the initial consultation, I showed Dr. Skála the areas that bothered me while wearing underwear. He carefully explained what could be removed with liposuction and from which areas.
At the same time, he motivated me by explaining that procedures like this are not only common among mothers after C-sections, but also among athletic women. Even active women can struggle with disproportionate body areas that simply do not respond to exercise or diet.
What concerns did you have before surgery, and how did the doctor help ease them?
Before surgery, I was afraid of the anesthesia, the pain, and how I would feel afterward.
A very kind assistant took me to my room and once again explained everything that would happen on the day of surgery, reassuring me that she was there for us. The nurses were also wonderful — they took great care of us and patiently answered all our questions and concerns.
I also really appreciated the room itself, with its comfortable adjustable beds and TV 😊
How did you prepare for the procedure (physically and mentally)?
Before the surgery under general anesthesia, I followed the instructions not to eat or drink from the previous day. I was allowed to rinse my mouth, which helped refresh me a little. The positive attitude of the staff helped a lot, and internally I kept imagining how good I would feel after the procedure — finally making one of my dreams come true.
I also reassured myself that even with two small children and all the care around them, I would manage because this is a surface-level, minimally invasive procedure with relatively easy recovery. It was also nice to share the room with another lady, and we talked together about our expectations and how we hoped to look after surgery.
How did you feel on the day of surgery? Were you nervous?
I was very nervous before surgery. But from the moment I checked in at reception, to being taken to my room and later transferred to the operating theatre, everyone was kind and in a good mood.
I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the anesthesia worked and that I only woke up back in my room. My fear of the actual surgery disappeared very quickly, and then all I felt was relief that it was over and I could simply focus on healing.
What were the first days after surgery like?
The first days were more challenging mainly because of the change in routine — walking and sleeping in compression garments, the swelling, and the feeling of several small entry points on the body, which occasionally bled.
Fortunately, showering was not a problem, and I could wash the garment and reapply small dressings over the liposuction entry points. Movement helped me a lot, as did normal daily activities with the children, drinking plenty of fluids, elevating my legs during the day, and reminding myself that this was a lighter procedure.
After a few days, larger bruises appeared in the treated areas and were painful, but standard pain medication and bruise creams helped. Every day was better than the one before.
How has the procedure changed your confidence and body image?
I feel really great after the procedure, both physically and mentally.
After 6 weeks, I’m already able to exercise again, and for the first time in my life I have thighs without those hanging “pads,” slimmer legs, and my abdomen almost feels like it did before pregnancy.
What would your message be to women and men considering a similar procedure?
My message would be this:
Yes, we should love ourselves the way we are. And if you have the motivation and strength, healthy lifestyle habits and sports are the foundation. But there are some things that simply cannot be changed naturally in the way we wish. Some things are simply beyond our control. In that case, I would absolutely recommend at least a non-binding consultation with a plastic surgeon. That consultation convinced me, and now I feel grateful and truly satisfied.
What would you say to those who are afraid or hesitant?
For me, the non-binding consultation, the professional yet human approach, and the excellent references for Dr. Martin Skála and the clinic were decisive. If someone is hesitating about a similar plastic procedure or has been dealing with long-term dissatisfaction with their body, I truly believe that a consultation can help them make the right decision.
Confidence after liposuction
For Monika, the biggest transformation was not only physical.
“For the first time in my life, I have thighs without those hanging pads. I finally feel comfortable in my body again.”
She is already back to exercise and says the result looks even better thanks to her active lifestyle. This is exactly why liposuction at MediCzech Prague works so well for fit women and mothers after pregnancy — it enhances what exercise has already built.
