  • What can happen if I do not follow the postoperative instructions?

Following your surgeon's instructions is an important part of a safe recovery. Returning to strenuous activities too early or not following the recommended postoperative care may increase the risk of complications, prolong healing or affect the final result.

If you are unsure about anything during your recovery, contact the clinic.

  • How should I sleep after breast augmentation?

We generally recommend sleeping on your back during the first few weeks after surgery. Keeping your upper body slightly elevated may also make you more comfortable.

Avoid sleeping on your stomach during the initial healing period. Your surgeon will advise you when it is safe to return to your usual sleeping position.

  • When can I remove the tape covering my incisions?

Do not remove surgical tape unless your surgeon or medical team tells you to (7-14 days). In most cases, it can be left in place until it begins to loosen naturally or until your first postoperative check-up. The tape helps protect the incision while it heals.

  • When can I start driving after breast augmentation?

Do not drive while taking prescription pain medication that can impair your concentration or reaction time.

You should also be able to sit comfortably, wear a seatbelt and perform an emergency manoeuvre without significant pain or restriction.

Many patients are able to drive after approximately 1–2 weeks, but the exact timing depends on your recovery and should be confirmed by your surgeon.

  • When can I start exercising?

Light walking is usually encouraged soon after surgery, as tolerated.

More demanding physical activity should be avoided during the initial recovery period. Heavy lifting and exercises that put strain on the chest, shoulders or upper body should be avoided until your surgeon gives you permission.

A gradual return to exercise is usually possible after several weeks. More strenuous exercise may need to wait until around 6 weeks after surgery.

  • When can I have a massage?

Avoid massage that puts pressure on the breasts during the early healing period.

A general body massage may be possible once you have sufficiently recovered, but pressure on the breasts and surgical area should be avoided until your surgeon confirms that it is safe.

  • When can I have sex after breast augmentation?

You can gradually return to sexual activity when you feel comfortable and your recovery is progressing normally.

Avoid pressure, impact or direct contact with the breasts during the early healing period. We generally recommend avoiding physical contact with the breasts for approximately 3–4 weeks, unless your surgeon advises otherwise.

  • When can I drink alcohol after surgery?

It is best to avoid alcohol during the early postoperative period, particularly while taking prescription pain medication or antibiotics.

Alcohol can contribute to dehydration and may interfere with recovery. Your surgeon will advise you when it is appropriate to resume drinking alcohol.

Smoking should also be avoided because nicotine can impair blood circulation and wound healing.

  • When can I wear an underwire bra again?

Avoid underwire bras during the early healing period because the wire can put pressure on the incision and the tissues around the implant.

Your surgeon will tell you when it is safe to start wearing one, usually after the breasts have sufficiently healed and the implants have settled. For many patients, this is approximately 2–3 months after surgery.

  • Can I use a tanning bed or sunbathe after breast augmentation?

Healing incisions and scars should be protected from direct sunlight and UV exposure. Avoid tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure during the early healing period. Even when covered, scars can react to UV exposure and become darker or more noticeable. Your surgeon will advise you when it is safe to resume these activities.

  • How long will I need to wear a postoperative bra?

You will be advised to wear a special postoperative support or compression bra during the initial healing period. The exact duration depends on your surgical technique and individual recovery. Your surgeon will tell you when you can gradually return to regular bras.

  • When can I return to work and normal activities?

Most patients can return to non-physical work and normal daily activities after approximately two weeks, depending on how they are recovering. If your work involves physical activity or heavy lifting, you may need more time before returning.

  • One breast hurts or feels tighter than the other. Is this normal?

Some asymmetry, swelling, tightness or discomfort is common during the early recovery period. One breast may heal faster than the other. However, increasing or severe pain, significant swelling, redness, warmth, fever, sudden changes in breast size or shape, or other unusual symptoms should be reported to your surgeon promptly.

  • What symptoms should make me contact the clinic?

Contact the clinic if you experience symptoms such as:

    • increasing or severe pain
    • sudden or significant swelling
    • redness or warmth around the breast
    • fever
    • bleeding or wound problems
    • sudden changes in breast size or shape
    • unusual discharge
    • difficulty breathing or chest pain

If you experience severe or potentially life-threatening symptoms, seek emergency medical care immediately.

  • Do I need follow-up appointments after surgery?

Yes. Follow-up care is an important part of your recovery. Your first check-up will usually take place before you leave the clinic or shortly afterwards. We kindly ask you to send us some pictures of the operated area after 3 months since your surgery with us. Should you need any personal check-up, please contact us immediately and we will book you in.

  • How long after surgery will I see the final result?

The breasts will gradually change as swelling decreases and the implants settle into their final position. The final shape and appearance can usually be assessed after approximately 2–3 months, although subtle changes can continue for longer.
