Who Is It For?

Loose, sagging skin on the upper arms is a common concern after significant weight loss, bariatric surgery, or natural aging. Even after achieving your ideal weight, excess skin can affect your overall body shape, limit your clothing choices, and impact your confidence.

Arm lift surgery (brachioplasty) is a procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms, reshape the contour, and restore a firmer, more youthful appearance. At Mediczech, we specialize in post-weight loss body contouring, helping patients complete their transformation.

Who Is a Good Candidate for an Arm Lift?

You may benefit from brachioplasty if you experience:

  • Loose or sagging skin on the upper arms

  • Excess skin after significant weight loss
  • Changes in skin elasticity due to aging
  • Discomfort or irritation from skin folds
  • Difficulty wearing fitted or sleeveless clothing
  • Dissatisfaction with the shape of your arms

Arm lift surgery is especially popular among patients after bariatric procedures such as gastric plication or gastric bypass, gastric sleeve.

How Is It Done?

The incision is made in the appropriate area, then the skin and underlying tissue is loosened, tightened and the excess removed. If necessary, the muscles are also tightened. During suturing, non-dissolvable or dissolvable stitches are used; non-dissolvable stitches must be extracted, while dissolvable stitches are absorbed by the body naturally, leaving a fainter scar.

Surgery

The operation is performed under general anaesthesia and takes from one to two hours.

The surgeon:

  • Removes excess skin and, if needed, underlying fat
  • Tightens and reshapes the arm contour
  • Places incisions along the inner arm to minimize visibility

In many cases, the procedure can be combined with liposuction for optimal results.

Recovery After Arm Lift Surgery

Patients typically stay at the clinic for one night. Recovery is straightforward when following post-operative instructions.

Recovery timeline:

  • Return to work: 7–14 days
  • Compression garments: 4–6 weeks
  • Physical activity: after 6–8 weeks
  • Final results: within 2–6 months

Swelling and bruising are normal and gradually subside, revealing slimmer, firmer arms.

Scarring After Brachioplasty

Scarring is an unavoidable part of the procedure. However:

  • Incisions are placed on the inner arm, making scars less visible
  • Scars fade over time with proper care
  • Our surgeons use advanced techniques to minimize their appearance

Back To Normal

Following uneventful recovery, it is normally possible to return to physically easy work and resume customary activities (excluding exercise) within two weeks of the operation. Normal physical activity, including exercise, can be resumed four to six weeks after the operation.
