Who Is It For?

Hormonal changes or genetic predisposition may lead to the formation of large fat deposits especially in the area of the lower abdomen, hips, thighs and buttocks. These alterations can significantly influence the overall appearance and well-being. If the problem is not related to general obesity, but rather clearly de-lineated fat deposits, liposuction can both drain these and at the same time decrease the number of fat cells, which prevents future fat deposits from building up. The best age for liposuction is 18 – 45; this is because an adequate level of skin elasticity is required. However, this operation is also available for older clients, depending on individual needs and following a personal consultation with the surgeon.

How Is It Done?

Short incisions are made (3 to 4 mms) in the appropriate area, in which a cannula (small tube) is inserted; a special machine then drains the excess fat. The maximum excess fat removed during one session is usually of two to three litres.

Surgery

Liposuction is performed under general anaesthesia or under local anaesthesia, using a so-called tumescent liposuction technique. It takes approximately one hour.

After Surgery

Immediately after the liposuction treatment, special elastic bandages are placed over the treated area. These will have to be worn non-stop for at least one or two months and can only be taken off for the time required for personal hygiene. The client usually stays at the clinic overnight and is taught how to perform special pressure massages of the treated area (these must be done daily for several weeks).  It is necessary to repose in the first days after the surgery.

Two to three weeks of the liposuction surgery the patient must start applying pressure massages in the operated area - they should be done for a minimum period of one month according to the surgeon's indications (a rolling pin can be used).

Back To Normal

Following uneventful recovery, it is normally possible to return to work within one week of the operation. Normal physical activity, including exercise, is allowed after a six-week period.

Extra

We also offer liposuction as a complementary treatment to other surgeries (such as tummy tuck) where it perfects the final result of the operation. If necessary, liposuction can also be repeated after a recommended minimum period of time.
