Breast Uplift

Who Is It For?

Nice firm breasts do not necessarily need to be a privilege of young childless women. Even though breasts usually droop - they lose their shape, the skin is loose and the mammary gland decreases - because of hormonal changes, pregnancy or breast feeding, there is a surgical solution to the problem which is called mammaplasty or breast uplift. If there is enough mammary gland left, the operation involves only breast lifting, if there is not, the breast lifting surgery can be combined with breast augmentation with implant.

Get Prepared

Make sure you will get time off work (depending on the operation and the nature of your job). You will need support and help from the family and friends in the recovery period (avoiding physically demanding jobs, important social events etc.); if needed (and possible), arranging  for children care.

No acute illnesses should occur in the period of at least 3 weeks prior to the planned breast lifting surgery (a viral illness, a cold etc.). If so, it is necessary to inform us.

Get a baseline mammogram before surgery and perhaps one after surgery to help detect any future changes in your breast tissue.

One week before the operation, do not take any medications containing acetylsalicyclic acid (such as Acylpyrin, Aspirin, Alnagon, Mironal etc.). It might increase bleeding during and after the breast uplift surgery.

Ideally, one month (minimum two weeks) before the procedure women should stop taking hormonal contraception or replacement in order to prevent thromboembolism.

Consult your GP or your surgeon in Prague regarding other medications you take regularly. Bring your usual medicine and pills, if possible in the original packaging.

It is recommended to stop or considerably reduce smoking two weeks before the operation. If you are a smoker don’t forget to bring nicotine patches with you.

Breast up lift surgery requires the use of elastic bra after the procedure. You can either bring your own or you can buy them at the clinic. We recommend buying them after the consultation with your surgeon who will try the elastic garments on and decide which size and type is suitable for you.

Ideally, women should not have their period when operated. If they do, they need to inform their doctor.

How Is It Done?

Incisions are made around areolae, down into the under breast folds and then in these folds. The glands are remodelled, excess skin is removed and areolae are repositioned up in the centre of newly well-shaped breast. If the breast lifting is combined with an augmentation, the implant is placed under the mammary gland or muscle.

The operation takes approximately two to three hours and is performed under general anaesthetic.

After Surgery

The breasts lift treatment requires two, sometimes three, overnight stays at the clinic and a two-week rest period. A re-bandage is done at the clinic on the third to fifth day after leaving the clinic. Then special compressive bandages are worn. It is not advisable to sleep on the side and also all movements involving lifting arms up should be avoided (no heavy lifting, limit use of arms for 4-6 weeks). In the first two months after the operation, it is not recommended to go to a swimming pool as there is a high risk of acquiring infection.
